Under the Designs Act, 2000  any article of creation and any substance, counterfeit, or mostly fake and generally typical; and consolidates any piece of an article prepared for being made and sold autonomously.

‘Configuration’ signifies just the highlights of shape, design, example or trimming or structure of lines or variety or mix thereof applied to any article whether two layered or three layered or in the two structures, by any modern cycle or means, whether manual, mechanical or compound, discrete or consolidated, which in the completed article appeal to and are passed judgment on exclusively by the eye, yet incorporates no mode or guideline or development or anything which is in substance a simple mechanical gadget, and incorporates no exchange mark, as characterize in condition (v) of sub-segment of Section 2 of the Trade and Merchandise Marks Act, 1958, property mark or imaginative functions as characterized under Section 2(c) of the Copyright Act, 1957.
